About Shropshire Child Contact Centres

Our Child Contact Centres are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for children of separated families.

We are committed to offering a positive space where children can spend valuable time with their parents and other family members, fostering healthy relationships and happy memories.

At Shropshire Child Contact Centres, we prioritize the well-being and happiness of children. Our team is passionate about creating a nurturing environment where children can thrive and build strong connections with their loved ones.

Our History

There are three centres in Shropshire - the Holy Trinity Church in Shrewsbury, the Senior Citizens Club in Lorne St, Oswestry. And at the Methodist church in Tan Bank, Wellington.

Our centres are NOT supervised. Supervised contact centres are required if there is a higher level of risk or a greater need in a family situation, when it has been determined that a child has suffered or is at risk of suffering harm during contact. This is common type for children in care, a proven history of domestic violence or drug and alcohol abuse. These cases have gone through some court proceedings and there will often be a court report. Observations are made by a trained supervisor and reports written, there is a member of staff always present. There is usually only one parent and their children present in a room with a supervisor. There is a private supervised contact centre in Madeley (Telford) and the nearest NACCC accredited supervised centres are in Stoke, Bromyard, Worcester, Birmingham and Liverpool.

All of our Shropshire contact centres are classed as supported child contact centres. They were originally run by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) in 1994 and became a charity in 2003. Our manager Val Collard has been involved with families for the last 28 years. We have over 30 volunteers in our organisation, some sit on the Management Committee from retired judges, solicitors and people from many different walks of life and others volunteer at the centres. They are trained in house and DBS checked and have lots of skills and understanding of working closely with children and families.
